After almost two years, Samsung may be ready to announce a new Galaxy Fit fitness tracker. Unfortunately, its specs are still a mystery.
In addition to the Galaxy Watch series of smartwatches, Samsung also has a Galaxy Fit wearables line, and a new model is reportedly on the way. The Galaxy Fit series is Samsung’s line of fitness trackers, and unlike Galaxy Watch smartwatches, these fitness trackers are affordable. Even though they pack fewer features in general, they do offer astonishingly long battery life.
The last Galaxy Fit wearable was the Galaxy Fit 2 which launched back in September 2020, although it didn’t land in the US until October of the same year. It came with better features and was priced at just $60 compared to the $99 price tag of the original Galaxy Fit. Prior to the release of the Galaxy Fit 2, Samsung also launched a cheaper Galaxy Fit-e version. This one dropped the color AMOLED display for a monochrome PMOLED screen and packed a smaller battery capacity. It also costs less than half the cost of the Galaxy Fit.
It now seems as though Samsung has a new fitness tracker on the way. The new wearable is reportedly called the Galaxy Fit 3, according to information revealed by a Samsung Community Forum manager (via TizenHelp). While no details about the features of the fitness tracker were released, the source did say that the Galaxy Fit 3 may be announced later in 2022. However, a possible delay could see its release get pushed to 2023.
New Galaxy Fit Features Are Expected
Despite the lack of details about the specs of the fitness tracker, it is expected that it will bring some new features that will help it take on the competition. The 2020 Galaxy Fit 2 did come with some upgrades such as a bigger display and an improvement in battery life, but it also lacked a blood oxygen sensor. Considering this is a feature available on fitness trackers like the Garmin Vivosmart 5, it makes sense that Samsung might add one to its new fitness tracker.
The Galaxy Fit 2 already boasts an impressive two-week battery life, so that might be one area where there won’t be much of an upgrade. However, if Samsung plans on shipping the fitness tracker with a bigger display, it is expected that the battery capacity might get a boost as well. The arrival of the Galaxy Fit 3 might also suit those that don’t want to pay the asking price of the upcoming Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. While it won’t boast features like fall detection or blood pressure monitoring, it will be able to track basic health metrics including sleep and stress. Samsung’s new fitness tracker will also be able to track several sports.
