Nothing Phone (1) Has A Refreshingly Unusual Design
The Nothing Phone (1) will be officially launched on July 12. The company has now revealed the semi-transparent design of the phone’s back panel.
Nothing has revealed the design of its first smartphone, the Nothing Phone (1), a week after announcing that the phone will launch on July 12. A few weeks ago, the company said that the Nothing phone (1) will incorporate some kind of transparency, but it wasn’t immediately clear what that would entail. The revealed design now shows that the rear panel of the phone looks very different than what people have come to expect from traditional smartphones.
Nothing is a new consumer electronics brand launched in 2020 by OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei. The company currently has a single product on the market – a pair of TWS earbuds called the Nothing ear (1). However, Nothing was always expected to get into the smartphone market at some stage, and it’s finally happening. The company confirmed that its first smartphone will launch on July 12 in select European markets and India. For now, there’s no confirmation about whether the device will launch in the U.S.
Nothing has posted a new image of its first-ever smartphone on Instagram, providing a full look at its back panel. From what can be seen, the device will ship with a dual-camera setup at the back, possibly with an accompanying LED flash. However, while the back panel design does seem to have shades of translucency, it doesn’t show off all the internal components like the Nothing ear (1). The biggest takeaway from the image, however, is what seems to be a large magnetic coil at the back, which would indicate that the phone will support wireless charging.
Nothing Phone: Rumored Hardware Specs
Alongside the wireless charging coil, there are also a few exposed screws or rivets visible throughout the periphery of the phone, giving it a cool industrial look. The company has used a clean white finish on the rear panel without any additional colors. There will likely be other color options later, but there’s no word on that right now. While the design elements certainly make the device stand out from the steady stream of smartphones flooding the market every month, it would have been nicer had the device actually incorporated real transparency like the Nothing ear (1).
Nothing has been hyping up its upcoming smartphone for several days now, teasing its design bit by bit every day. The company had earlier confirmed that the phone will be manufactured in India and will include batteries from China. There’s no more new information about the device for now, but rumors and official teasers over the past few weeks have revealed a few details about it. There’s talk that the device might ship with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 Soc to remain affordable, and it is also said to come with a 6.55-inch OLED display with FHD+ resolution. The Nothing Phone (1) will likely come with a centered punch-hole to house the selfie camera and support 45W wired charging.
