If you drive a Tesla, you’ll need to become familiar with where and how to charge it. Luckily, there’s an easy way to see nearby Superchargers.
Tesla makes an assortment of electric vehicles that are compelling alternatives to traditional combustion-engine cars, but finding charging stations will be a significant factor in the switch. While gasoline and diesel refill stations are ubiquitous for fueling vehicles worldwide, electric vehicle chargers are still less common. With that in mind, there are still a surprising amount of chargers around common locations in North America. Though owners can charge Teslas outside of Superchargers owned by the company, there are a few benefits to sticking with the brand. Users can save both time and money at a Supercharger through the Tesla referral program and other discounts. Luckily, it’s easy to find one nearby.
Setting the discounts and other benefits aside, the Tesla Supercharger network’s most significant advantage over third-party options is its size. The global charging network is the largest globally, with over 30,000 locations featuring as many as 50 charging stalls for electric vehicles. It expanded to Alaska in 2021, which was the last state to receive a Supercharger. In total, there are 1,200 Supercharger stations inside the United States, with each state having at least one station within its borders. The U.S. has the most charging stations of any country, so it’s likely that a Supercharger is often nearby.
Generally, charging an electric vehicle is cheaper than filling up a traditional combustion-engine car. The market for oil and gasoline is also more volatile than the electricity market, so gas prices can skyrocket and plummet while electricity prices plateau. It is cheaper to charge an electric vehicle at home than at a Supercharger station, but the stations away from home might be necessary to recharge a Tesla. At a Supercharger station, users can charge their vehicles for 15 minutes and receive up to 200 miles of additional range, making it a convenient pit stop. According to the company, the fast charging speeds still price out to be less than gasoline.
See Nearby Superchargers On A Map
To find nearby Superchargers, Tesla offers a convenient web tool that can display an interactive map of charging stations. As soon as the website is loaded, the user may be asked whether they would like to share their current location with Tesla. If the user agrees to the location sharing, the webpage will refresh and automatically show a map of the user’s current location and nearby Superchargers. However, if the user declines to share their location, it’s still easy to view nearby Superchargers. Simply enter a city, street, or postal code into the search bar at the top left corner of the site, and the page will show available Superchargers in the area.
After a nearby Supercharger is found, a ton of information can be shown about the station on the webpage. On the map, Superchargers will be identified by red circles with a lighting bolt inside, and clicking on that icon will present the details of the charging station. For example, users can view how many charging stalls are at the station, when they are available, and the maximum charging power available. In addition, there are notes such as whether there is free WiFi, restrooms or restaurants nearby. Using the interactive Supercharger map on Tesla’s website makes it easy to plan a charging stop while a driver is away from home.
